TS-Doctor 4.x / Neuestes Microsoft Update 24H2

FWIW, and just for the records:

Du darfst in diesem Board keine Dateianhänge sehen.

Der Audio-Dekoder wurde von uns entwickelt und digital signiert. Er enthält auch keinerlei Virus oder dergleichen. Es handelt sich hierbei also um einen Fehlalarm oder auch "False Positive" genannt.

Du darfst in diesem Board keine Dateianhänge sehen.

TS-Doctor 4.x / Antw:How to fix subtitles that...
Letzter Beitrag von Cypheros - Oktober 01, 2024, 09:07:24
TS is a very special format. ffmpeg, tsmuxer and other tools like that often have problems with this kind of files if there are errors in the stream. When receiving Transport Stream via satellite, cable or antenna, reception interference occurs from time to time, especially during bad weather or poor reception paths.

Missing or bad packets often leads to sync problems between audio, video and text streams if you convert them to other container formats.

Personally, I leave the format untouched and don't waste time and expensive electricity on conversion just to save a bit of disk space. Storage space is so cheap these days.

Zitat von: flexmcmurphy am Oktober 01, 2024, 02:36:38MKVToolnix creates a .mkv and ffmpeg can put text-based subtitles in a .mkv container.

Not sure about the ts, I only use mkv.

TS = Transport Stream = a lot of unneeded garbage.
Strip it off, encode to PS (Program Stream), save up to 2/3 space without losing any quality.

So my storage only contains reencoded MKV files, saving a lot of disk space...

Unless you do not want to re-broadcast the video, TS is not needed.

I'm not sure if tsMuxer uses ffmpeg behind the scenes, it probably does. It appears to put the .srt file of text-based subtitles in to a .ts container but what is happening behind the scenes is it converts the subtitles to image-based PGS format, as revealed in MediaInfo in TSDoctor.

After playing with tsMuxer some more I notice both the subtitles AND audio going out of sync with the video in my .ts file!

I also had this problem when I added a .srt file of subtitles to my video file, out-of-sync issues with the audio! Perhaps that is because I had to convert the .ts to a .mp4 container first because (I assure you Mam) ffmpeg cannot add text-based subtitles to a .ts container.

They only reliable way I found that worked for me was converting the .srt to VobSub format (in SubtitleEdit) and then using ffmpeg (dvbsub) to add that to the .ts container.

I don't know how Handbrake does this, if it uses ffmpeg to save everything in to a ts container then it most likely converts the subtitles to image based format first. MKVToolnix creates a .mkv and ffmpeg can put text-based subtitles in a .mkv container.

Zitat von: flexmcmurphy am September 30, 2024, 12:40:16From what I can tell, ffmpeg can only mux subtitles in to a .ts container that are in bitmap-based and not text-based format. Furthermore, currently it cannot convert text based subtitles into image based and vica versa. Does that sound correct to you?
No. It definatly CAN mux them in. Use frontends like Handbrake or mkvtoolnix if you cannot find out the correct commandline parameters (No, I dont know them, but I use Handbrake to do this every day and HB is just a gui to ffmpeg)

TS-Doctor 4.x / Antw:How to fix subtitles that...
Letzter Beitrag von flexmcmurphy - September 30, 2024, 12:40:16
I have been trying various ways to recombine the correctly sync'd up subtitles back in to the TSDoctor generated .ts file.

From what I can tell, ffmpeg can only mux subtitles in to a .ts container that are in bitmap-based and not text-based format. Furthermore, currently it cannot convert text based subtitles into image based and vica versa. Does that sound correct to you?

So I used "Subtitle Edit" to export the corrected .srt (text) file to VobSub (image) format and then muxed that in as above. I prefer the way the subtitles look by adding them back to the .ts stream in text-based form but in that case ffmpeg apparently requires the container to be .mp4. Maybe I would loose some quality if I convert the .ts to .mp4? Is that correct do you know?

I cannot get a definitive from searching around... for instance exactly what subtitle codecs ffmpeg supports in a transport stream container. Would you know the answer to that or how to find the answer to that?

I tried tsMuxer and it actually can combine the TSDoctor .ts file with a .srt file. I'm not sure what it does behind the scenes, if it needs to do any encoding or converts the .srt to vobsub first? The end result looks like when I used the ffmpeg mov_text codec to add the .srt to the .ts after converting it to an .mp4. I prefer the text-based look to the vobsub look.

tsMuxer was unable to recognise the subtitle stream from the TSDoctor generated .ts file of that movie. So again maybe there is some issue with that subtitle stream.

I wonder if the TSDoctor team would consider adding in more powerful subtitle sync'ing capabilities to capture this scenario. AutoSubSync has a method to automatically sync subtitles by analysing the audio and comparing it to the subtitles. Maybe that could make the TSDoctor subtitle offset correction fixing more robust.

In my case maybe this was a rare situation and I have learnt a lot in the last few days about audio/video.

Thanks for your help,

Flex

Ok, I see the problem. Timers for subtitle PID 0935 are far off and TS-Doctor tries to fix it with an offset.

2357  (0935): 0%   = Subtitles (PES_StreamID BD = Private_Stream_1) {20000F10} [PTS][PESLength]
2357  (0935): Delay to video stream = 40688ms
Patch time base for PID 0935 = -40134 ms

This works in most cases but not in yours. I will try to record some samples from Film 4 and see if I can reproduce the probem but as the recording is more than 12 years old, probably Film 4 changed their timings.

@Cypheros

The log file is attached now.
When I made the .srt file in TSDoctor and aligned it with the audio in "Subtitle Edit" I found that I needed an offset of 41001ms. I needed the subtitles to start 41001ms later. And that keeps them in sync for the whole movie length. I checked again, the subtitles in the original 000.ts are correctly in sync with the audio.

In the TSDoctor generated .ts file the DVB subtitle stream is the 5th stream or "Stream 4". When I look in that log file I see a mention of that pid and some kind of delay...
elementary_pid           : 2357 (0935)
2357  (0935): Delay to video stream = 40688ms

I don't know what that means. I'm happy to do any other tests needed to help.

Cheers,

Flex
